Restaurant Rants and Raves

After you spend a couple of hours sunning on the beach, cruising the Boulevard or riding the rides. What is left to do? Only the most important vacation past-time… going out to eat. Since no one likes to cook when they're on vacation, the grand strand is home to hundreds of restaurants. Whether you want soul food or seafood, it can be found on the grand strand.
Probably the most popular form of dining is the seafood buffet. On the South end of the strand in Surfside Beach is Crabby Mike's which features a 100 item seafood buffet complete with Alaskan king crab legs (in season). In central Myrtle Beach look for Capt. George's (you can't miss it) near Broadway at the Beach. Or enjoy "Big Mussells, Great Legs, & Fantastic Tails" at Dirty Don's Oyster Bar on 21st Ave. North.

If you are not the buffet type there are still plenty of cook-to-order seafood restaurants about. On the North end, Calabash offers the widest selection. On the South end try Murrells Inlet. The Island Café in Pawleys Island (far south) offers an all you can eat lobster tail special on Wednesday nights in the summer.

Growing weary of the fried food? How about some raw food? The Grand Strand has gone swimmy over sushi. Even most grocery stores carry it. Many restaurants like Divine's Fish House in Murrells Inlet feature a sushi bar in addition to their regular dinner service. Many local Japanese steak houses have sushi bars. Miyabi's , formerly Kyoto, has restaurants on both the North and South end. Sugami on 55th Avenue does not offer the hibatchi grill acrobatics, but instead has excellent traditional Japanese dining and sushi. Watch out for Wednesday nights there, however, it quickly changes from a restaurant to a crowded bar around 10:30pm.

Okay, you've continually stuffed yourself to the gills with seafood and you need a break, so what's left? Myrtle Beach is littered with steak restaurants with catchy names like the Roadhouse, Longhorn, and Lone Star. In Murrells Inlet try Bovines, aside from the $20+ per plate steaks they have awesome brick oven pizzas at a reasonable $10 or less.
